whatever I may think of Irish politicians of recent years this is a brilliant speech and LONG LONG overdue...the more leaders of other countries that follow suit the better. The centuries long abuse of position and power and all in the name of "religion" is coming to an end, thank God.It's almost unbearable to imagine the suffering of so many thousands of children that had no voice while the Vatican held sway over Ireland and other countries-they covered up countless crimes, including the rape, physical and sexual abuse of children and got away with it because of their power, arrogance and deceit. They hid behind canon law and behind the fear of superstitious congregations who didn't dare confront them but no more. As an institution its day is done and perhaps something of worth will rise from the ashes, time will tell.
